Jake - he/him
Co-owner
Jake got his start with animals working at the SPCA Summer Day camps teaching kids to care for their pets. While doing this Jake also began to take an interest in psychology while attending UBC. It was a natural fit for Jake to take his passion for animals and psychology and turn it towards teaching humans how to teach their pets. These days, Jake mentors our retail team on how to educate clients in store. When he's not training dogs Jake loves to cook, listen to music and wrestle with the 2 little ones.

Tanya - she/her
Co-owner
Tanya got her start working in vet clinics both in Calgary and Vancouver. After seeing the same dogs month after month for the same ailments Tanya developed a strong passion for preventative health care.

Kat - she/her
Retail Manager
Raised in Costa Rica, Kat developed an immense love for animals of all shapes and sizes while living in the rainy (even more rainy than Vancouver!) central valley and the dry temperate regions of the pacific coast. With bizarre pets ranging from lizards and mice to snakes and sloths, Kat learned a lot about the relationship between humanity and the amazing creatures we share this earth with. Kat spent a year working in a small Costa Rican shelter learning about veterinary practices and caring for the animals which led her to decide that no matter where life takes her she would always work with dogs.

Hannah - she/her
Head of Communication and Marketing
Since she can remember, Hannah had been asking her parents for a dog. Years of persistent requests, pleading, research on breeds and care, finally all amounted to… “still no.”

Katie - she/her
Retail Clerk
Katie has worked with dogs as long as she has worked in human health care. Her goal is to share her knowledge in canine behaviour, training, nutrition, and cooperative care husbandry with her community. Katie is currently raising a feisty terrier shitzhu mix who excels at nosework, and an older Boston pug coping with aging and separation anxiety. She is no stranger to dietary sensitivities, behavioral struggles, the challenges of puppy raising and most of all the joy of finding solutions to those concerns that bring peace to the whole household. Katie is currently a retail clerk and assists in our cooperative, consent based healthcare program.

Jaime - they/he
Retail Clerk
Jaime has always been an animal lover and has had at least one animal in their house throughout their whole life. Starting off with cats, their family decided to make the jump to adopting an adorable rescue pittie-mix named Waffles. He had some fear and aggression difficulties. Jaime’s family knew that they wanted to help him through positive association training and having healthy outlets for him. Jaime was hooked. They couldn’t get enough of training walks and going to all the coaching sessions with Waffles and their family. Through Waffles, Jaime found a local dog daycare and hydrotherapy centre and applied for a job. At that facility, Jaime learned even more about positive reinforcement training, dog’s body language, and the many benefits of hydrotherapy.

Chelsea - she/her
Retail Clerk
Chelsea is re-joining our team as a Retail Clerk! She has taken a year off for maternity leave and is now ready to bring her dog knowledge and Smooth Operation skills to a wider audience.

Kennedy - she/her
Retail clerk
Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Kennedy has her family cocker spaniel, Joey, to thank for igniting her curiosity and passion when it comes to animal companions. She first got her start at a pet kennel in Edmonton, before moving to Vancouver in 2015 and joining the Discover Dogs walking and pet sitting team! The discontinuation of DD walking services led her to starting her own small dog walking operation since 2018. She's still walking dogs full time, so you might not catch her too often in the store, but she looks forward to contributing to an enjoyable experience if you cross her path! Kennedy is eager to fill her brain with new information and hear a variety of perspectives when it comes to anything dog related. Her goal is to share her knowledge and to serve her community in a meaningful way, all the while meeting tons of furry friends as she does.

Lo - they/them
Retail clerk
Raised on Bowen Island, Lo has felt deep connection with the natural world from a young age. They now enjoy caring for their blind hound, Mr.Magoo. Their current focus is on community care, and trying to make the world more accessible for all.

Bre - she/her
Retail clerk
Bre has always had compassion towards all living things. She was intrigued from the start, she was constantly studying her pets growing up. Her curiosity led her to pursuing studies in biology and conservation in post secondary. Bre also felt the urge to help living creatures. From an early age she was saving snails and wood bugs on sidewalks and now is helping both dogs and owners through discover dogs, redirecting her passion to both humans and animals. When she’s not at discover dogs, Bre can be found reading at a cafe, baking treats, or meandering around Vancouver.

Blake - they/he
Retail clerk
Blake is a young Indigenous person who has spent their life dedicated to things like art, nature and most importantly, DOGS. For most of their childhood, they had the cutest jack russell terrier. After he passed they spent a lot of time convincing their parents that they were ready for their own dog. After a couple years, they found the right one. Blake adopted an adorable pup named Daisy who deals with reactivity. They have spent the last few years working on that as well as agility with a trainer. This has cemented Blake’s love for dogs and of learning everything they can to help dogs have the best lives possible.
