Our Team
The magic of Discover Dogs is our amazing team. Read on to learn about us!
Jake (he/him)
Director and Coach
Jake got his start with animals working at the SPCA Summer Day camps teaching kids to care for their pets. While doing this Jake also began to take an interest in psychology while attending UBC. It was a natural fit for Jake to take his passion for animals and psychology and turn it towards teaching humans how to teach their pets. These days, Jake mentors our retail team on how to educate clients in store. When he's not training dogs Jake loves to cook, listen to music and wrestle with the 2 little ones.
Tanya (she/her)
Director, Human Resources and Healthcare Provider
Tanya got her start working in vet clinics both in Calgary and Vancouver. After seeing the same dogs month after month for the same ailments Tanya developed a strong passion for preventative health care. As a result, nutrition, grooming and health care become a corner stone of the company, which Tanya now spearheads in our healthcare services.
When she's not in the store Tanya loves to cook, get out for walks and play with her two rugrats, Chuck and Huck.
Katie (she/her)
Retail and Healthcare Assistant
Katie’s first career was as a Registered Nurse, working at the Mazankowski Heart Institute and the CK Hui Heart Centre in Edmonton. Katie moved to British Columbia in 2014. While looking for a position in her field, she started work in a dog daycare. It wasn’t long before she decided to pursue a new career with dogs.
Katie's goal is to share her knowledge in canine behaviour, training, nutrition, and cooperative care husbandry with her community. She assists in our cooperative-care-based healthcare services and can troubleshoot many dietary concerns including allergies, sensitivities, yeast overgrowth, diets tailored to medical needs, as well as the surprisingly common issue of pickiness.
An elderly pugston named Rockefeller and the sweet and spicy Birdie are Katie’s sidekicks and daily inspiration to understand our four-legged companions and meet their needs holistically from puppyhood to old age.
Katie is currently pursuing certification through the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers and also works with When Hounds Fly providing science-based, positive reinforcement-based training.
Jaime (he/they)
Retail Specialist & Healthcare Assistant
Jaime has always been an animal lover and has had at least one animal in their house throughout their whole life. Starting off with cats, their family decided to make the jump to adopting an adorable rescue pittie-mix named Waffles. He had some fear and aggression difficulties. Jaime’s family knew that they wanted to help him through positive association training and having healthy outlets for him. Jaime was hooked. They couldn’t get enough of training walks and going to all the coaching sessions with Waffles and their family.
Through Waffles, Jaime found a local dog daycare and hydrotherapy centre and applied for a job. At that facility, Jaime learned even more about positive reinforcement training, dog’s body language, and the many benefits of hydrotherapy.
Now, Jaime has found the perfect place at Discover Dogs to educate not only themselves, but the community too (while still getting to work with all the wonderful pups they encounter).
Bre (she/her)
Retail Specialist and Inventory Management
Although Bre is a cat lover at heart, it doesn't get in the way of her care for dogs. Bre's curiosity with animals started at a young age and led her to pursuing studies in biology and conservation in post secondary. Now, helping both dogs and owners through discover dogs, redirecting her passion to both humans and animals. When she’s not at Discover Dogs, Bre is usually cat sitting, studying Social Work or at a local cafe.
Blake (he/him)
Retail & Product Specialist
Blake is a young Indigenous person who has spent their life dedicated to things like art, nature and most importantly, DOGS. For most of their childhood, they had the cutest jack russell terrier. After he passed they spent a lot of time convincing their parents that they were ready for their own dog. After a couple years, they found the right one. Blake adopted an adorable pup named Daisy who deals with reactivity. They have spent the last few years working on that as well as agility with a trainer. This has cemented Blake’s love for dogs and of learning everything they can to help dogs have the best lives possible.
Nico (he/him)
Retail Specialist & Healthcare Assistant
Born and raised in Mexico, Nico has always loved animals, none more so than dogs. Despite never having owned one due to his parents’ refusal, he has always strived to work with animals in the future to make up for his childhood without them, and has been working towards adopting a pup since moving to Canada. Nico’s love for dogs has only grown since then, and there is nothing more in the world he wants than for every dog to be happy and loved as much as possible! In his free time, Nico can be found reading, sleeping, or more likely than not planning a game night with friends.
Bronwyn (she/her)
Retail & Product Specialist
Living with a dog her whole life, Bronwyn has always been drawn to creatures canine in nature. As a child every night she would pour over a book of dog breeds, trying her best to memorize them all. To this day she is liable to abandon a conversation with friends when a cute dog walks by. Currently residing in a home with a dog, lizard and chickens she's familiar with beasts of all sizes and loves them all. She is thrilled to be able to come into work and help dogs and owners in finding the best product for their pet. Currently a post-secondary student, when she's not working Bronwyn spends most of her time cafe-hopping to study or relaxing with a video game at home.
Hannah (she/her)
Graphic Design
Since she can remember, Hannah had been asking her parents for a dog. Years of persistent requests, pleading, research on breeds and care, finally all amounted to… “still no.” So when she moved away, Hannah vowed to adopt a furry friend on her own. Luckily, she met Kat who shared her love for animals, and now Hannah is the one who has to say “no” to every adoptable pup Kat shows her. For now they have Garbonzo and Chai, who keep their hands full.
